iPod Touch (Gen 2)having problems with WPA connection?

by Jimmy Liew on 16 November, 2008

A growing thread in Apple’s Discussion forum – WPA on 2nd Gen 2.1.1 focussed on a possible problem with how the iPod Touch (2nd Gen) with Firmware 2.1.1 has consistent problem connecting with WIFI routers that is set on using WPA/WPA2 security.

Many Touch owners, like myself, have difficulty connecting or sustaining a connection with the WIFI router that has WPA/WPA2 security activated. I had to downgrade to a less secured WEP connection in-order for the Touch to be online.

Many suggestions were tried – resetting Network setting on the Touch, switching off QoS for some routers etc, but most had less than successful outcomes.

Hopefully there will be a version 2.2 firmware for the Touch when it comes out for the iPhone, and hopefully it will fix this possible WIFI bug.

Do you encounter similar problems?

I have a third generation itouch which would not connect to my D-Link DAP1160 AP when WPA was enabled. I found by turning off the WMM feature in the advanced wireless settings cured the problem.

Also there are other useful suggestions on the cnet.com forum

Kev.
