Large Form iPod Touch…aka NetBook?

0 Comments/ in News / by Jimmy Liew
31 December, 2008

TechCrunch posted an article saying that Apple might release a large form iPod Touch for 2009.

We’ve got this from three independent sources close to Apple: expect a large screen iPod touch device to be released in the Fall of `09, with a 7 or 9 inch screen. Prototypes have been seen and handled by one of our sources, and Apple is talking to OEMs in Asia now about mass production.

Many were speculating that Apple will come up with a small size MacBook like those NetBooks available out in the market, but don’t you think the iPod Touch is just like one, sans the keyboard.

With Apple having such success with the iPhone, iPod Touch, paired with the iTunes and App Store, having a large form iPod Touch will satisfy fans’ craving for 1) a Tablet and 2) a NetBook.

If priced attractively between the MacBooks and iPod Touch, it might carve out a niche like how the iPods did back when it was launched. Schools will be a good target market for such a device.

As it is, these rumors of a tablet/netbook/big-ass-Touch almost always surface before a MacWorld, so take it with a Touch-ful of salt. I wonder whether that Tech Crunch source that held it was a friend of Big Foot.

Fix for Mail.app quit after 10.5.6 update

Besides having installation problems, Apple also acknowledged problems with Mail.app for some users after installing the update for 10.5.6.

After updating to Mac OS X 10.5.6, Mail may unexpectedly quit. This can be caused by having outdated third-party Mail plugins installed, or by using a copy of Mail that wasn’t updated properly (you may need to reinstall the Mac OS X 10.5.6 Combo Update).

Apple also released a download to update the Mail.app properly. Let me know if you have any problems and whether it is solved.

Next is another classic – Sim City – the game where you play GOD and build, toy and destroy the city you build. Just wonder whether fat fingers like mine will crush the cities with just a Touch. The game is available now at US$9.99 – iTunes link

Lastly there’s Rolando – a game that looks abit similar to the PSP game LocoRoco that was also put on sale today by ngmoco. Using tilt, tap and the multi-touch controls, you can control the Rolandos as they move around the four worlds, with challenging puzzles in the 36 levels. It’s available at US$9.99 – iTunes Link
