Boot Camp

Support for Windows 7

Apple updated Boot Camp to support Microsoft Windows 7 – all 639 flavors of them. At the same time this update also addresses issues with the Apple trackpad, turns off the red digital audio port LED on laptop computers when it is not being used, and supports the Apple wireless keyboard and Apple Magic mouse.

Apple also released the Boot Camp Utility for Windows 7 Upgrade. This should be used if you are planning to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7 after you installed the Boot Camp Update (version 3.1) as you might encounter a warning during the Windows upgrading process.

Together with these Boot Camp updates, if you are running iMac and Mac Pro, you should also download these Graphics Firmware Update so that they are compatible with Windows 7. There is also an update to drivers to implement in Windows 7 for late-2009 iMacs.

Security Updates

For the rest of us, there are also Security Updates for OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and 10.5 (Leopard). The detail of the first Security Update for 2010 can be read here. In summary, this update patches security holes in CoreAudio, CUPS, Adobe Flash, ImageIO, Image RAW and OpenSSL.

For the safety conscious, always do a backup of your important files before applying these Security Updates, and also do so after you have quit all other applications.

You can get this update when you run Software Update or download here accordingly: 10.6 | 10.5 Client | 10.5 Server
