WorldCard giveaway

Remember sometime back we reviewed the WorldCard Mobile iPhone app -

To start, you just need to snap a photo of the namecard, or retrieved photos of cards taken earlier. Then just let the app works its magic. The character recognition on the WorldCard mobile app is quite impressive. I’ve tried two cards so far and have gotten 90% success rates! The only misspelling I’ve seen was mistaking a “l” for an “i”. While checking the correctness of the scanned data, you can even go back to the image, and manually select the area to tag to the correct data. Once that is done, you can save it in your iPhone as a new entry, or to append to an existing entry.

Well those guys at PenPower Inc has just updated the WorldCard Mobile app to be iOS4 compatible and also with the following features:

iPhone coming closer to Singapore

Local telcos – SingTel, M1 and Starhub have started accepting “registration for interests” for the purchase of iPhone 4. As it is, this is just a registration to indicate your interest to be updated by the respective Telcos when pre-ordering of the iPhone will begin.

The sites are as follows:

  • SingTel – http://info.singtel.com/personal/communication/mobile/mobile-phones/iphone4
  • M1 – http://m1.com.sg/iPhone/prereg.jsp?iphone=01
  • Starhub – http://survey.starhub.com/iphone4/start

At this point, no more information was provided by either Telcos on when the pre-order dates, contract/phone pricing nor upgrading details. But follow us on Twitter or the Apple Singapore’s FaceBook Page and we will keep you up to date when those information are ready!

Although we don’t get Apple’s own iconic-designed stores like at the Fifth Avenue in New York City or the soon-to-be-opened store in Shanghai, we have many Apple Premium resellers that are making it easy for customers to get their hands on Apple’s products.

EpiCentre from AFOR Limited is one brand that has been raising the retail experience for Apple since their first store opened at the Wheelock Place back in 2002. Their sixth and newest store has opened at the beautiful Marina Bay Sands.

Preparing for iOS4

0 Comments/ in Learning / by Jimmy Liew
21 June, 2010

iOS4 will be available soon in the next few hours. While we wait for it to be ready, there are a few things you can do to get yourself prepared.

is your iOS device suitable for iOS4?

  • Only iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 3G will be able to experience all the features of iOS4.
  • iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G will only have a subset of features while the original iPhone and iPod touch won’t be supported
  • If you have jailbreak your iPhone, do refer back to the sites you got your jailbreak software to see if there are any updates before you upgrade to iOS4. Apple won’t support any issues from upgrading if it was done with a jailbreak phone.
  • Alternative is to restore your iPhone to the original OS and update to iOS4, while waiting for the jailbreak software to be available.

Get iTunes 9.2

iOS4 requires you to use iTunes 9.2 to sync – so run Software Update on your Mac/PC or download from Apple and update your iTunes.

Update your iPhone apps

Developers have been advised to submit iOS4-ready apps and updates are streaming into your iTunes App Store. So download them while you wait for iOS4.

Backup, Backup and Backup

This is one step that thankfully is automatically executed whenever you sync your iOS device. Prior to updating, sync and do a backup of all your data on the iPhone. Just in case, bookmark this Apple Support Document on Backups and find out what is backup-ed, where is the back up and most importantly, how to restore your back ups.

Last but not least…be patient

When the iOS4 is released into the wild tonight, there will be lots, and I mean, LOTS of people who will be pinging their iTunes to download the OS. So there will be delays, drop connections and probably errors if the file wasn’t downloaded properly.

You don’t need to have it on day one, but if you do – be patient.

iPhone 4 will come in July – or maybe not

Announced today during Steve Jobs’ keynote address at the WWDC, iPhone 4 will be available in Singapore sometime in July.

So come July, our wallets will cry.

We will keep you informed once the dates and pricing of local release as soon as we know them! :)

update Had a conversation with a Singtel representative managing corporate plans and he mentioned that the iPhone 4 might only be available in late August 2010. Put this information together with quotes from the three telcos in news report where they said they will bring the iPhone in the coming months, it might just be true we won’t get it in July.

Also, Apple might delay the iPhone 4 launch here just so that it won’t clash with the iPad launch, which also happens in July. Another reason might be it will take some time for IDA to do their testings on the phone before it is released.

But we will keep a close watch.
