If you have more name cards of business associates than a pack of poker cards, you need something to help you organise them and get those information into your AddressBook quick! Name card scanners out in the market are usually expensive and more importantly, not mobile. Not till I discover WorldCard Mobile.
So. For the past few months, you have been hearing two men wax lyrical about Apple. It’s been all about performance and hardware and testosterone talk in general. Well, it’s going to change a little now.
If it’s not obvious enough, I am a girl and I love my iPhone and my MacBook, which I had named Ingrid. The iPhone is Isabella, by the way. I use my iPhone quite differently from the way my husband does. As someone who loves fashion and is constantly trying to get up to date on what’s happening on the catwalk and on the streets, I find that my iPhone has become handy for those pockets of time when I have nothing to do. Here are a few apps that are fun, frivolous and absolutely related to fashion.
The starting point of many apps developed for the iPhone comes from personal encounters with problems in life, be it something as simple as being reminded of due dates of books from the library. That’s where Library@SG comes in.
Remember us showing you buUuk’s Augmented Reality demo back in September – now you can get that fancy technology on your iPhone 3GS with their updated version 3.2.
buUuk’s reach of finding good food and drink locations has extended to Australia, New Zealand, Toyko, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Israel, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and many more!
With version 3.2, you not just get the Augmented Reality mode to view restaurants location (only for iPhone 3GS), you can also use the built-in compass to get directions to those restaurants. There are other new features but one feature that is the best ever since its first launch, its the low price of FREE!
Get it now at the iTunes App store
Yahoo released the official Flickr iPhone app (iTunes link) and baring some crashes and my one and only video not playing, the app is a well designed app that matches the website many of us use.
You can basically do most of what other Flickr-related iPhone apps that are already out in the market but the well designed interface makes it a pretty pleasant experience. Try it out – it is at a low price of $0.

Here’s a video of a preview version of buUuk that will feature Augmented Reality in displaying locations of your fav eatery. See how that works in the video below.
In case you aren’t aware, buUuk is a locally created iPhone app (iTunes store) that besides helping you locate eating places around your location, also has an active community that gives quick reviews of those places. The app is a life-saver when you are stuck outside during eating time with no idea where to go.
What it isn’t – a Twitter client. It doesn’t show you your friends’ Twitter nor fart when you swipe across a twit.
What it is – a Twitter-pad – for taking down your 140-characters notes that you can send to Twitter at a later time.
What it is – an app to let you jot down your 140-characters thoughts while you are offline/Airplane mode and publish them when you are online
What it is – just watch their awesome video to find out what it is.
Birdhouse is available on iTunes Store for US$3.99.

A new briefing has been released with new quests and challengers and just to reward MacHeist members, you get ShoveBox, an information manager that lives in your menubar. For the uninitiated, each MacHeist starts off with quizzes and challengers that when completed, sometimes a free app is given to members to download. At the end of the campaign, a bundle of apps is packaged at very attractive price and part of the proceeds are given to charity. So don’t wait, the first brief has been uploaded online.
Apple has updated their list of vintage and obsolete products which means these products will not be serviced by Apple Authorized Service Providers (list of Singapore AASP) and that replacement parts will be harder to come by.

If you are a frequent Wireless@SG user and gets frustrated with the tedious login process, look no further with this new app from Ong Junda – SG Wireless. It will save you time and much frustration when you need to be connected.
Junda Ong who makes the popular SG-series of iPhone apps has added a new one to the mix – possibly one that will rake him a nice income – SG Girls (iTunes Link) is available for US$3.99.
SG Girls display public photos on the Internet with the theme “Singapore Girls”. This is an application to appreciating oriental beauties.
Just what any hot-blooded guy needs on their iPhone…It features streaming of photographs, zooming, ratings and the ability to save the photos.
Like most developers, Junda had faced problems getting approval for the app to be approved by Apple. But after two over months, the app finally shows up today.

For those who aren’t fluent in hokkien, mai tu liao literally meant let’s not wait… maybe, just maybe the Gods in Cupertino heard my plea.
The app came about after some prompting from Junda’s friend to make him an app that he would use daily. Somehow, the idea of seeing the daily top pictures from a popular local photo site came to mind. With two weeks of coding, he came up with a system backed by a distributed Mac system that will source a selected few photo sharing sites for photos that matches the “SG Girl” criteria and stream them via the app.
One of the criteria is that no sleazy photos will be distributed so as not to contravene Apple’s strict restrictions over the apps that appear in the App Store. Junda also wants to make the app as a “clean, premium photography app”.
The app works as advertise. Upon loading, it automatically streams photos of girls from various photo sites like Flickr, PhotoBucket and Picassa, to name a few. Occasionally, you will see the Flickr’s “The Photo is current unavailable” placeholder.
One thing to note is the app is a bandwidth sucker, with each photo averaging between 50-100 KBs, those with limited data plan should try to use this app only when WIFI is available.
The controls are minimal (click on image), and only appear when you tap once on the screen. You get to scroll back and forth, rate the photos and also the option to save to your Photo app. There is also an option to “flag” the photo and another button that gives the instruction and description of the app.
A suggestion is to expand the options available when one “flag” the photo. Besides inappropriate content, owners or the subject in the photographs should also be allowed to indicate that they want the image removed. The issue of image usage is tricky in this context as there are sites that are not strict in protecting the usage rights of the content owner.
I guess one would like to know how are the qualities of the photos shown. To each his own, but there are photos that are street candids which I feel, are photos which won’t meet the app’s objective of showcasing “oriental beauties”.
As Junda said himself, the app is very raw after just two weeks of development. There is a market for such an app and when he fine tunes SG Girls, don’t be surprised to see similar apps showcasing beauties from the region.
