SG Wireless – time saver for mobile workers

For those who are constantly on the move and relies on the ever-present-but-frequently-faulty Wireless@SG wireless broadband network, using it on the iPhone can be a frustrating experience when all you want is to check your email.

First of all, though the coverage of the wireless network has grown over the years, the strength of the connectivity is spotty at best. Should you be lucky and be connected, you would have to login before you can begin surfing. To do that, you’d have to open Safari in your iPhone/iPod Touch, access any site so that you can be redirected to the login page where you need to select the network you had signed up with, key-in your user name (eg. xxx@singnet) followed by your password. All in all, you would probably take 1-3 minutes, depending on the strength of your connection.

No more waiting.

With SG Wireless (iTunes Link), the new app from Ong Junda, makes it helluva easy to login to Wireless@SG network.

The free app allows you to quickly set up your user account on the app, and whenever you are within a working Wireless@SG network, activate the app and have it login automatically, within a matter of seconds.

I had the app set up within seconds and while I was at Tampines Mall, I was amazed at the swiftness I got connected via this new app. No more having to jump through hoops just to get connected.

At version 1.0 the app is working as advertised although much more testing is required over the whole network to ensure that the app can login everywhere. According to Junda, although there are only three providers for Wireless@SG, “different login behaviours and their depolyed hotspots could have different versions” means at certain hotspots, the app might fail. So if you encounter a location where you have difficulty getting connected with the app, do email him or post your query at the app’s GetSatisfaction page.

Location tested and worked:

  • Tampines Mall
  • Northpoint, Yishun

Do let us know if you have tried on other locations and it worked for you.

SG Toto

SG Toto

Local iPhone App developer Just2Me recently launched the SG Toto app (iTunes Link) into the iTunes App Store for all you punters hoping to strike it rich.

Some of the features of SG Toto includes:

  • ability to check previous results (since 2005) – for those who believes Toto results follow a system (i wished)
  • ability to view the winning numbers of the last 7 draws and also the numbers not drawn
  • ability to check the next jackpot and the prize money

The SG Toto interface is pretty straightforward and very friendly on the eyes. All the features are easily accessed at the bottom of the display. As SG Toto is FREE and supported by ads, you’ll find a small bar across the tools at the bottom which is not too intrusive.

With this launch, Just2Me has almost all the apps for the eager punters, together with the SG 4D (iTunes Link) for almost instant 4D results and the SG Pools (iTunes Link) that shows the latest odds for soccer bettings with Singapore Pools.

According to the app’s blog post, the SG Big Sweep app will only appear next year while he worked on another app that is _”most interesting”.

In the mean time, go support our local app developers and download SG Toto (iTunes Link).
